The café culture is growing in Wanaka, and many of the caffe latte set can be seen sitting on the sunny sidewalks in the morning and after skiing. Some of the establishments have indoor and outdoor fires, further adding to the ambience.

Wanaka has fine dining establishments, cafes, casual dining, pubs and also lots of fast-food outlets. Many Wanaka restaurants use local produce and wines, but there is also international cuisine available including Thai, Mexican and Indian.

How to get to Wanaka from Australia

The most direct route is to fly directly to Queenstown. Once in Queenstown, there are a few transfer options available, including car rental, private transfer, shuttles, and regular bus services from Queenstown airport to Wanaka.

The drive from Queenstown Airport to Wanaka takes approximately an hour (63km).

The other option is to fly to Christchurch then drive or bus to Wanaka. It will take about 5 hours by car and 8 hours by bus.
